Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre, Crawley

The interiors of the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre take inspiration from the colours and textures of the ocean. Various shades of blues and greens mixed with corals form the basis of the colour scheme. The finned timber ceiling which was designed to evoke wave patterns is repeated throughout the building. The same family of furniture is used throughout and colours are deliberately mixed to mimic the patterns of the sea.

The design for the Crawley building locates office and laboratory areas on the upper floors while the ground floor area accommodates an entry off Fairway, an auditorium, break out areas, storage, staging areas, boating areas and the two-storey Centrifuge Centre. The design incorporate best practice ESD principles which are self assessed to achieve a 5 star Green Star rating.
