Emmanuel Christian Community College - Stage 1
After completing a Masterplan for Emmanuel Christian Community College in 2013, the School successfully purchased a portion of land at Casserly Park for their new Junior School Campus. Ferguson Architects was commissioned by the school in 2014 to design the first stage of the new Junior Campus.
The newly completed facility provides an Early Childhood Centre, two Year 1 classrooms, two Year 2 classrooms, a welcoming entry space, staff offices, toilet facilities for staff and students and storage areas. The School’s existing Junior Campus located opposite the new site is slowly being decanted into these new buildings and will be transformed into a Senior School Campus.
The Junior school design has a bold and angular form which is a result of the steep slope of the site. The building follows the contours of the slope down the site and incorporates large pop-up windows facing south to maximise the amount of natural light within the classrooms. The classrooms have been designed to incorporate large glazed bi-fold doors which open them up to a shared undercover space to enable the use of indoor/outdoor teaching. Separate staff offices also come off these shared spaces with a large storeroom for each year group.
